Artwork Information (continued) Artist Statement - A detailed story about the work for viewer's understanding. Have you ever wanted to paint something so desperately but couldn't figure out what exactly it was? Then all a sudden you find that one song and instantly get in a sort of trance? This is what happened to me, a 27 years old artist who just dived in her self-love journey two years ago. I was greatly inspired by 3 songs while creating my piece. The first one being 'Bambolle'(2020) from the movie Luxmi, the second one is 'Kodiavanin Kathaya'(2011) from the movie Kanchana and the third, main one, being 'Mera Bhola Hai Bhandari' (2019) by Hansraj Raghuwanshi and Suresh Verma. The first two named songs were mainly my trance song during the painting process, whereby the third song was the main inspiration. The funny part is that I had no idea about the third song. It was and is still my mom's favourite song. She calls it her 'hype' song. She listens to this every morning before going to work, thus I would automatically wake up to it every morning. I guess it is the beauty of living in a multi religious country like Mauritius. We are being exposed to different religions, cultures and flavors, thus we unconsciously start grasping other languages. So, since I was literally listening to it every morning, I started picking up lines and words that would intrigue me. These songs made me do more research about Lord Shiva. From there, I started researching about Shiva's Tandava Strotam, the third eye and the seventh chakra. What fascinated me was the fact that the seventh chakra was not one specific thing, but the wholeness of a universal energy. It is considered to be "the seat of Shiva," and "the abode of Supreme Consciousness". It expresses not only immanent energy, but also transcendence which in another way sysmbolises the eyes of the universe. And since it means "the lotus of a thousand petal", what better way to portrait Lord Shiva than a blue lotus mandala. Moreover, I decided to add a main eye in the center to represent the eye of the universe which is also surrounded by golden eyes to symbolize that Shiva can see everywhere. While digging deeper I found out that, on the other hand, the Evil Eye PROTECTS from evil eyes. What is the Evil Eye you will ask? Basically, it's when one gives a bad glance your way and sends bad vibes. This can be unintentional or intentional. The craziest thing is that some people might think "who is going to believe this weird thing?", but the truth is that beliefs in the Evil Eye is ancient; it occurred in ancient Greece and Rome, in Jewish, Islamic, Buddhist, and Hindu traditions. Thus I took the decision of combining the third eye and the Evil Eye in a solo canvas to create the 'Trilochana." This unique combination showcases my love for Hindu mythology, the element of the mind (from the 5 elements), the third eye and the Evil Eye. And how could I complete my painting without my signature dots? So here we go with the final personal touché of gold and dots. To conclude I would like to add that being a young artist of 27 who just discovered self-love, self-acceptance, self-respect and being a young artist who is finally fully confident, painting this piece was a pure bliss for me and I hope the person who is going to get the canvas will feel as powerful and confident as I do at this very moment.
