Artwork Information (continued) Artist Statement - A detailed story about the work for viewer's understanding. Consumed by sickness and melancholy... I was pleasantly surprised when this piece came to fruition. Many people are unaware that most artists who create from the heart are guided by passion in their craft. There is no equation to this type of art and the final outcome is unpredictable. I fall in this category of artists. The final piece achieved a sense of movement through the texture, weight, and aggressive brushstrokes. "Consumed" is a story told within itself. During my growth as an artist, I was inspired by Old Master's paintings, which abide by a consistent layout. The foreground subject is complementary to the background depth supporting the feeling of the work. "Consumed", however, depicts a sense of maturity and rebels against the norms by merging the two depths of field. when closely analyzed, the piece gives a sense of the subject literally coming at you. Conceptually, the idea behind this piece was to express an ominous environment, where victims are hopelessly under the wrath of the virus. Illuminating portraiture interpretations, the idea was to compress all anxiety, despair, and a cry for help into one facial expression. The slight smirk juxtaposes the dark pool of blood, which further intensifies the message. In retrospect, "Consumed" reflects on those who succumbed to the deadly plague and those awaiting its impending doom.
