F. 9 MAURITIUS CITIZENSHIP ACT FACT SHEET No. 5 Section 14(1) - Renunciation of Mauritian Citizenship 1. A citizen of Mauritius of full age and capacity who is also a national of a foreign country can make a declaration of renunciation of his citizenship of Mauritius under this section. HOW TO MAKE DECLARATION 2. Forms of declaration of renunciation are available at the Citizenship Section of the Prime Minister's Office, Level 4, Government Centre, Port Louis, Tel Nos 201-1495; 201-3362; 201-2208 or on the following website: pmo.govmu.org. PROCEDURES 3. A declaration of renunciation has to be subscribed in Mauritius, in the presence of a Judge or the Master & Registrar of the Supreme Court or a District Magistrate and if abroad, before a representative of the High Commission/Consulate of Mauritius prior to submission. 4. The following supporting documents in original and one photocopy should accompany the declaration (clean and legible copies on A4 format):- (a) a recent copy of the birth certificate of applicant; (b) marriage certificate of applicant (if any); (c) photocopy of first five pages of applicant's passport; and (d) documentary evidence to the effect that applicant has or shall be granted a foreign citizenship upon renunciation of the Mauritian Citizenship. NOTE: Any change of name should be made executory in Mauritius. 5. Upon registration of the declaration of renunciation, the applicant will be notified accordingly by way of a letter that the renunciation has been registered and that he is no longer a citizen of Mauritius as from that date. NOTE: Only a complete dossier with all relevant documents will be accepted. The document issued to confirm renunciation should be kept safely as no duplicate is issued in case of loss.
